Saw these guys live at my uni a week back, I was impressed. They seem to have strong ties with my uni, I presume they are (ex)studentsof Exeter or something. Very dreamy kind of sound. They had a troubled set, levels wernt quite right, which wasnt thier fault and they shined through as a result, showing great professionalism and good humour. Recommended. _________________

Open Hand
Their new record You and Me is getting compared to QOTSA quite a bit, but I tend to think the heavy guitar swirl would appeal to fans of My Vitriol. There are a few tracks with female backing vocals, which, against the norm, "are so much harder and more raw" than the male lead singer's voice, to quote the man himself. "I sing the pretty parts. It's awesome."

Year of the Rabbit
Failure was Ken Andrews on guitar and Greg Edwards (now in Autolux) on bass. Both contributed to songwriting.
Year of the Rabbit was Andrews' band after Failure broke up. They have also since split, but their self-titled (and only) record Year of the Rabbit has always reminded me a lot of Finelines with the heavily-effected lead guitar and overall grungy, early '90s sound. Andrews also produced the album, giving it that "shoegazer" sheen that helped make My Vitriol special.

The Timeline Post
Dreamy shoegaze waltzes from Sulpher Springs, TX, USA.
"Once upon a time, two boys from sulphur mixed and matched some farmer chords and created a band. after much debate and deliberation the boys decided to name themselves The Timeline Post. it became a relative goal to make soft spoken, melodic, waltz-pop music. the end."
They're (supposedly) about to release their first album.

"Coma Love"
"Out My Window"
Fair to Midland
Artistic heavy metal/hard rock with insane vocals that go from "Mexican Radio" (Wall of Voodoo) to a very unique death metal growl inspired by Native American throat singing. Plenty of kickass guitar parts and synthesizer/sampler love. Fans of Mansun might also enjoy these guys. They're about to release their debut for the majors on Serjical Strike (Serj Tankian [System of a Down]'s label), but start with their sophomore indie release inter.funda.stifle for the street cred.
