Okay, so Som talked a lot about his love for stuff like The Prodigy during the long wait for MV's sophomore album. Since we may never see that album, I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some music I've found that brushes elbows.

The Prodigy is OK, but I'm a much bigger fan of demoscene/modtracker-borne music--that is to say, early music composed on/with a computer. Some of the sounds just cannot be found anywhere else, and the respect these musicians command as composers and innovators should not be overlooked, in my opinion.

One important thing to note is that all of this music is COMPLETELY FREE.

Some of my favorites include...

Necros
Check out...
"Click"
"Martian Lovesong"
"Shadow of the Mind"
or...

Purple Motion
Check out...
"Global Motion"

On the more recent side of things, we have

she
Chiptunes/bitpop with more modern electronica sounds thrown in. Check out the 8bitpeoples-released album "Pioneer" first, then move on to the others if you like what you hear.

"Sweden mega-chip razor dance g0! 8Bitpeoples proudly presents Pioneer, the debut release from Pjat Lain aka she. Terraforming international minds via opcode radiation, she delivers the correct dosage of industrial breaks, wavetable bass and chiptune taste to send shivers down your spine while debugging your heart. Nebulous darkchip hits to deliver you through the underground. This is your electronic spirit guide, offering to desaturate your life with passionate twilight beats — YEAH!"

Check out...
"Nebula"
"Twilight"
"Coloris"

The Depreciation Guild
Shoegaze crossed with bitpop (old school "computer music"). Really great if you're into either, but with a bit more of a pop sense. Somewhat reminiscent of Amusement Parks on Fire in tone/timbre.

Their album "In Her Gentle Jaws" is available for free download at
InHerGentleJaws.com
or check them out on their Myspace

"Sky Ghosts"
"In Her Gentle Jaws"
"Butterfly Kisses"
