whats better - multi effect pedals or seperate effect pedals ???

Of course its dependant on what sounds you want.

Im of the opinion that you can mix lots of different effects together on multi effects pedals (flanger, delay, chorus etc to make lots of crazy weird sounds) and with seperate effects you would obviously need to turn on a number of various pedals to achieve the same sound.

Press one switch or learn how to stand without using your feet so that you can switch on all the other pedals to achieve desired sound Rolling Eyes

I asked this guy from a guitar shop and he said separates are better, then he said something about why buy a multi effects pedal when in a years time its gonna be old and they would have brought a new one out. Well my thoughts on that statement is that, isnt this the same with single pedals, they bring out a new version every year.

Your thoughts please ??

i had a multi effects pedal.

cost me 300, sound was ok, if not a little bit shit and digital sounding.
Effects were nowhere neer as nice sounding as real pedals.
There is a delay between changing effects, resulting in silences when switching, not good for live use.
It was made out of metal, except the foot buttons, which were made out of plastic. These broke in less than a year of careful use, which also broke the circuit board, rendering the whole unit useless.
You have no real control of how you link effects up, for instance, the order in which they are placed has an effect on the overall sound (try it kids) and some cannot be used together (for instance, mine wouldnt let me put any of the following together:

Delay
Chorus
Phaser
Flanger
Wah
Tremolo
Vibrato
Ring Modulator
Step
Cry
Pitch Shift

Also, with pedals you can set em up in the order you want em, with as many as you like and they are much sturdier and nicer sounding.

Benafits of mulit effects includes:
Price, much cheaper than buying them all
Presets, if you want to use for example two different delay sounds in one song, you dont need to bend down to fiddle knobs mid set.

I would never use a multi effects on its own, although i may be temped to use one with my current array of pedals. I'd recommend boss pedals to most people as they are damn sturdy and generally quite good at what they do.

I wouldnt recommend a Zoom GFX8 to anyone (unless they get if for 100 or cheaper) , although i miss its effects, I'd rather have the real thing.

Woah, what a rant.

I think my pedal board says it all really...

Depends what music you play really and how many effects you will actually use and need. No need wasting money on stuff your only gonna use once.

THe blue one is the MM4, modulation effects. Phaser, flange etc. You just get used to changing quickly, its not hard really. I dont really change more than 1 or 2 at a time anyways. When changing more i just change teh important ones first and the rest follow. Smile

have you ever heard of a line selector pedal. Im not entirley sure how they work but i think they enable you to switch between lots of different effects just by pressing the pedal once.

Like i said im not 100% sure.

I use a Boss LS-2, it has bypass and then to channels, i have one heavy and one clean with all other effects independant of the channels so they work with both.

Yeah they are cool but i dont bother with it really. I dont use them all at once so changing aint a problem. But if your interested in getting one i say go for it cos they are well handy for changing quick, not sure but i think it might only work with other boss pedals as well.

So do you know exactly how a line selector pedal works cause all the information on them is very vague and im not quite grasping how they work. Im not really clued up on how amps, effects etc works together so you will have to excuse my ignorance.

The dl4 is great for all diff sorts of delay so yeah id say get one. The boss delay pedals are also really cool and i wanna get one of them as well for added delayage.

The space station has heaps of effects on it, its pretty much the MV sound pedal. If you go on the sticky tabs thread ive made have a look on infantile and theres a clip of what i recorded using it. Its cool as f**k.
